A Visible DifferenceSkin, race and identity 1720-1820This exciting looking exhibition, exploring the forgotten histories of black Africans living with skin pigmentation conditions in the 18th and early 19th centuries has recently opened at the Royal College of Surgeons. The exhibition will seek to find out how much of this history has changed and whether people are not equally as curious about visible differences now, as they were then. Open to all Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm, free entry see http://www.rcseng.ac.uk/museums/exhibitions/exhibiting_difference/exhibition |

A new website is about to launched which offers an excellent introduction to the knowledge and learning which existed in the Kingdom of Assyria in the 7th century BC, which was at that time the largest and most powerful empire in the Near-East. You can access the current version of the site here - however the site may move in future to a more permanent location. I found it absolutely fascinating and can't recommend it enough. |
